About the event
Celebrate Wisconsin's Invasive Species Awareness Weekend!
Join Roots & Rivers Collaborative for a guided nature hike at the Spread Eagle Barrens State Natural Area. Lindsay Peterson, executive director and WI Master Naturalist, will guide the hike and discuss the barrens unique ecology and the impacts of invasive species.
Hike and explore barrens ecology, broad vistas, interesting plants, and rare barrens birds. Search bracken grassland, jack pine, scrub oak, and quaking aspen for mourning warbler, clay-colored sparrow, Brewer’s blackbird, and other species that require large, open landscapes. See the landscape as it springs to life following a recent prescribed burn and learn about the importance of fire on our landscapes.
Trail Info:
2 miles, flat, gravel access roads
Please dress appropriately for the weather, bugs, etc. The event will be held rain or shine!
